From the Southern League Website

Following Hereford United's expulsion from the Football Conference, Hayes & Yeading United have been re-instated in Conference South thereby leaving a vacancy in the Southern League Premier Division. The League is in discussions with Hereford United FC to determine if there is a way forward for the club’s participation in its Competition and will make a further statement in due course

Hereford United Empty Redditch United made a move to play at Edgar Street

Post by deerstalker Thu Feb 19, 2015 11:18 pm

REDDITCH United made a move to play football at Hereford United's former home.

A Herefordshire Council scrutiny meeting today heard the Southern Premier division's bid to move to  Edgar Street was rejected by the FA.

Former Hereford United owner David Keyte is also at the meeting and said he had very little option but to sell the football club to Essex businessman Tommy Agombar.

Mr Keyte told councillors, who are meeting to review the leases on the former club’s Edgar Street ground, that "nobody came forward to help save one of the few assets we have got in Hereford city which, in my view, is Hereford United Football Club”.

"It is a tragedy it (the club) has now gone and I have to say pushed to the edge by local people with their own agendas," added Mr Keyte.

Hereford United FC were wound up before Christmas when the group who took control from Mr Keyte failed to pay debts totalling more than £1million to a number of creditors, which included HMRC.

Mr Keyte also offered his view as to why – in his view – Herefordshire has so little success when it comes to sport.

“I was born and bred in Hereford and I played for Hereford at county level at football, cricket and rugby,” he added.

“Hereford is in the backwaters in sport.

“And, in my view, it is unable to reach a national level because of the nature of the ageing population and the lack of youngsters coming through,” he said.

Edgar Street the former home of defunct Hereford United will be leased to Phoenix club Hereford FC the grounds owners, Hereford CC have decided.

That's bad news for Redditch United were one of a number of groups who applied to play at the now defunct Hereford United’s ground.

The agreement with the new club and lease are subject to contract and solicitors final comment.

The Hereford Football Club group, led by Jon Hale has successfully negotiated the short term lease to run from March 2015.

This means that the club can be registered with the Football Association in time to ensure that Edgar Street sees football back at the ground in time for the 2015-16 season.
